Jeremy Finch (Jem)
Jeremy Finch is around the age of ten at this time. He is Scout's brother and Atticus' son. He is very protective of his younger sister, and a very curious person. Jem wants to make contact with Boo Radley (a neighborhood "monster"). He's so curious of the Radley's that he neglects to realize the risks of snooping around in other people business. His best friend seems to be Dill Harris, in which he goes on these adventures with.
Jem doesn't seem to mind school, but he minds being seem with Scout at school. He likes to hang around with the older kids and forget his sister during educational hours. In other words, he likes to have a life away from home.
In part two, Jem has become older and wiser. He is trying to be like Atticus, whom is obviously his role model. In the act of becoming 'older' and 'wiser', he is pushing Dill and Scout away. Jem prefers time to himself now, instead of the company of his friends. The books he reads have been about rape, allowing him more knowledge of the trial.
The trial took it's toll on Jem. Each time Judge Taylor said "guilty", it was described as a stab to him. Jem thought that Atticus would definitely win but he didn't think of the racist people in the courthouse.

"Scout, I'm telling you for the last time! Shut your trap or go home-I declare to the Lord you're gettin' more like a girl everyday!"
